Find out when your local models have a newer version and update them
Overview
Model publishers sometimes update a model under the same name and tag, for example to fix a chat template or improve quality. Ollama doesn't tell you when this happens. OllaMan checks your local models against their registry and shows which ones have a newer version.
Free to check, Pro to update
Update detection is available to everyone. Applying an update downloads the model again and requires OllaMan Pro.
Spotting Updates
On the Installed page (in the sidebar), a model with a newer version shows an update icon (an arrow in a circle) below its name. Hover over the icon to see "Update available. Click to update."
OllaMan checks automatically:
- When you open Installed, if the last check is more than 6 hours old
- In the background every 24 hours while the app is open
Checks run quietly. If a check fails, for example while you're offline, no icon is shown and OllaMan tries again next time.
Updating a Model
Click the Update Icon
Click the update icon below the model name. You can also open the model's ⋯ menu and choose Update model.
Wait for the Download
OllaMan downloads the new version. Only the changed layers are downloaded, so updates are often much smaller than the full model. A spinner shows while the model is updating, and progress also appears on the Downloads page.
Done
When the download finishes, the update icon disappears.
Updates replace the old version
The model keeps its name and is replaced by the new version. If you depend on the exact current version, copy it under another name first, or skip the update.
Skipping a Version
If you don't want an update, open the model's ⋯ menu and choose Skip this version. The icon disappears and comes back only when the publisher releases another new version.
